Lauren Bolster

We are excited to welcome April—a month full of meaningful celebrations, community connection, and Husky pride! April is also the Month of the Military Child, a special time for us to honor and celebrate the strength, resilience, and sacrifices of our military-connected students and families. At Hillside, we are incredibly proud to serve such a strong and inspiring community.
Our character trait this month is Resilience, which perfectly aligns with the strength we see in our students every day—especially our military children.

Important Dates:

  • April 1–3: Spring Break – No School
  • April 2: World Autism Awareness Day
  • April 10, 17, 24:  Purple Up Fridays – Wear purple to show support for military children
  • April 15:  Wear Blue for Autism Awareness
  • April 24: Student of the Month Assembly

Month of the Military Child Spirit Week (April 20–24):

  • Monday (4/20):  Hats Off to Service Members – Silly Hat Day
  • Tuesday (4/21): Hearts Beat True – Wear Red, White, and Blue
  • Wednesday (4/22):  Camo Day
  • Thursday (4/23):  R.E.D. Day – Remember Everyone Deployed
  • Friday (4/24):  Purple Up + Student of the Month Assembly

 State Testing (Grades 3–5):
State testing will take place in May for students in grades 3–5. Please note the following key dates:

  • May 5–May 21: Main testing window (ELA, Math, and 5th Grade Science)
  • Testing days are primarily Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 9:00 AM (some at 10:00 AM)
  • Make-up testing will occur May 7–June 4

We ask families to support students by ensuring they are well-rested, on time, and present on testing days. Your encouragement makes a big difference in helping students feel confident and prepared! Another message will be sent to all 3rd-5th grade families for exact testing dates.

Throughout the month, we encourage all students and staff to participate in these spirit days as a way to show appreciation and support for our military families. These small acts of recognition go a long way in building a strong, inclusive, and supportive school community.

Thank you for your continued partnership and for helping us celebrate all of our incredible Hillside Huskies—especially our military-connected students.
